Welcome to the SMC Global Database on School Meals
Here you can explore, filter, visualize, and download data and metadata on school meal programmes and their broader areas of impact.
About the Data
The database combines data from trusted sources, selected for their relevance, credibility, availability, and timeliness. These include direct government data, the GCNF Global Survey of School Meal Programs, the State of School Feeding Worldwide, as well as data from UNESCO, the World Bank, the African Union, the School Meals Coalition, and publications from official institutions, international organizations, and peer-reviewed academic research.
Please note that discrepancies in global and regional aggregates may exist between the database and the State of School Feeding Worldwide publication. These differences are due to the database being regularly updated, and editorial decisions made in the publication, which may include estimations to fill data gaps.
Limitations
While all data are drawn from reliable sources, the use of multiple sources may result in differences in definitions and methodologies. We recommend reviewing metadata and source notes for additional context. Through ongoing collaboration with partners and data providers, the Data and Monitoring Initiative (DMI) is committed to improving methodological alignment and enhancing the comparability of the data over time.
